WNCC batted first and posted a solid 241/7 from their 40 overs. Contributions all round including a disciplined 50 from Jim Thompson and 48 runs from Gurney.
On a glorious day, 24 of West Norfolk’s finest took on the challenge of the links at Hunstanton in the Spring Meeting of WNCC. The cricketing talent on show included England all rounder Peter Parfitt, Norfolk batsman Crow Goodley and Jonathon Agnew’s Uppingham bowling partner Nic Pull.
Russell overcomes Royal Wedding snub
Will Russell overcame his immense disappointment at being the only Old Etonian not to receive an invitation to the Royal Wedding by smashing a princely 100 not out in 56 balls to see WNCC to their 2nd win of the season.
Mason’s last hurrah
I, along with 9 other WNCC players, will be able to tell our grandchildren that we were there when I Mason played out his final act as a WNCC player. It was lovely for those that had never previously met this WNCC legend, but heard many rumours, to hear him with great reluctance reminisce over his sporting career.
Frankie Sutton gets an A star on WNCC debut
WNCC were delighted to welcome I Zingari CC to Norfolk and were equally thankful to Greshams school to allow us to use their 1st XI ground. I Zingari, founded in 1845, were captained by Simon Talbot Williams (WNCC hon. sec) and elected to bat.
Fairey leads by example
When the Captain (Mike Fairey) arrived at 2.15 for a 2.30 start to be greeted only by the groundsman and his dog and with no prior knowledge who had been selected for this contest amongst ‘Gentlemen’ further concern set in when the first 4 WN arrivals had a combined age of over 200.

West Norfolk fielded first and with the first over of Fakenham’s innings being a maiden WNCC were hopeful of restricting Fakenham to around 120 runs from their allotted 20 overs.
Youth policy downs Granta
With 72 hours to go we had 8 players, with 48 hours to go we were down to 6 players and with 24 hours to go we had 7. With it being half term surely there were some teenagers not taking major exams.
Greshams schoolboys give WNCC cricketing lesson
At 12.30pm WNCC collapsed from 59 for 1 to 59 for 4 as Gurney, Sutton and Buchan joined Everall back in the pavilion and with Courtauld due to come in at no 7 and two players still to get to the ground the fat lady was clearing her throat.
Bore draw ruins a good lunch
WNCC opened the bowling with Stanton B and Thompson R. ‘Tommo’ took a wicket with his 1st ball and another one 8 balls later, both bowled. The time was 12.05pm.
